Nauruan Amputees Receive Prosthetic Services from the Prostheses Foundation

On 18 June 2026, two amputees from the Republic of Nauru, accompanied by their guardians, traveled to the Prostheses Foundation of H.R.H. The Princess Mother in Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai , Thailand, to receive prosthetic services. The Foundation’s team of physicians, prosthetists, and prosthetic technicians jointly conducted assessments, measured the residual limbs, fabricated prosthetic legs, and provided gait training.
Both recipients had undergone below knee amputations approximately four years ago. The first recipient is a 9-year-old boy who was born with a congenital leg deformity and subsequently required an amputation. The second recipient is an 18-year-old young woman who lost her leg in a motorcycle accident, which significantly affected her daily life.
The two recipients learned about the Foundation’s prosthetic services through the coordination of Global Mission Support Service (GMSS), a charitable organization that supports public health services and assists disadvantaged people in the Republic of Nauru, a small island nation in the Pacific Ocean. GMSS collaborated with the Prostheses Foundation to enable amputees from Nauru to access prosthetic services, helping them regain mobility, independence, and dignity in their daily lives.
This visit reflects the Prostheses Foundation’s commitment to expanding equitable access to prosthetic and orthotic services for amputees, both in Thailand and among nations around the world free of charge. Through its services, the Foundation continues to improve the quality of life of amputees and provide hope by helping them walk again.
