The sixth unit
of the year was the 148th royal mobile prosthesis unit – a collaboration between the Prostheses Foundation and Surat Thani province. It took place at Klang Mai Temple’s multipurpose hall, Muang District, Surat Thani, during 14th – 19th July 2018. A total of 156 amputees from Surat Thani and nearby provinces came and a total of 145 prostheses were offered as detailed below.
1. Syme Prosthesis Amount: 2 legs
2. BK Prosthesis Amount: 91 legs
3. TK Prosthesis Amount: 7 legs
4. AK Prosthesis Amount: 40 legs
5. Hip Disarticulation Prosthesis Amount: 5 legs
On 19th July 2018, Her Royal Highness Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, the Prostheses Foundation’s Honorary President, joined the ceremony where prosthetic legs were given to amputees as the chairperson and gave commemorative coins to 68 benefactors at Banjong Grand Ballroom, Banjongburi Hotel, Muang District, Surat Thani. It was an honorable occasion of royal kindness to the Prostheses Foundation, government officials and residents of Surat Thani. The Prostheses Foundation received a total of 4,752,788 baht donation.
During this royal mobile prosthesis unit, Surat Thani Livestock Office organized a training course in farming chickens for eggs for 21 amputees; each and every one of them also received ten chickens and one sack of chicken food. In addition, there was a session in making dolls from socks and making useful objects from fabric scraps for interested amputees.
Moreover, the Prostheses Foundation organized a training session for 75 physical therapists in Surat Thani so that they can take care of the amputees after they are given prosthetic legs. A competition in prosthesis making was also held in both AK and BK prosthesis categories. It was to look for the best and fastest prosthesis technicians.
