Prostheses Foundation of H.R.H. The Princess Mother was established in 1992. When it was learned that Dr.Therdchai Jivacate was able to make prosthetic legs which were lighter, more comfortable and 10 times less expensive than imported ones, as they were made from recycled plastic, the Princess Mother set up The Prosthesis Foundation to provide free prostheses for poor amputees, regardless of nationality or religion. The Prosthesis Foundation was registered Aug. 17, 1992 with the Princess Mother as Honorary chairman and H.R.H. Princess Galayani Vadhana Kromluang Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra as president. Both donated a sum of money which made it possible for The Foundation to begin providing prostheses since 1992. |

The opening of
the new office building
of the Prostheses Foundation.
| In order to do the work of the Foundation at the begining; the office of the Foundation was located in the Faculty of Medicine of Chiang Mai University and in the buildings of several private individuals. Later when there were more services given to many people, more researches were carried on the work, more artificial leg parts were made and more accessories were made, the Foundation needed to have its own place to build new buildings to perform the work. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Royal Thai Army had given authorization to let the Foundation use 7.2 rais of the Army land to be use for building office buildings. The Foundation also got financial support from the Goverment Lottery Office, The Bang Thai, The Thai Cement Public Company Limited and many stores to build the buildings for the Foundation. Now the new buildings are completed. The Foundation can better continue to perform the work at it full capacity to fulfill the plants of the Princess Mother. The main building will be used for offices, lecture rooms, workshop areas, and rooms to conduct the researches and to make parts for artificial legs. There is also a storeroom and bedrooms for people who come for training and rooms for the disabled. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
