Q : |
How must the stump be cared for? |
|
A : |
1. Keep it clean as any other part of the body, washing, scrubbing, and drying it |
| when you bathe. | |
| 2. Inspect it for bruises or scrapes regularly. If you find injuries stop using the | |
| prosthesis, apply antiseptic such as betadine, or consult a doctor. | |
| 3. Continue wrapping it with an elastic bandage, even though it has shrunk. | |
| It should only be removed to bathe and rewrap every 6 hours. It should be | |
| wrapped 23 out of 24 hours. | |
| 4. Choose an elastic bandage which is the right width for the stump. | |
| 5. The elastic bandage should be washed the same as socks using washing powder, | |
| and not boiled, as then it will lose its elasticity. Hang it to dry draped between | |
| 2 lines where the sun is not too bright. | |
