Prosthetic Workshops at Community Hospitals

In the past, most prosthetic services were available at provincial hospitals where only 2 -3 prosthetic technicians were taking care of all amputees in the province. Short of services were an inevitable consequence. The Foundation also organizes a 7-day long mobile unit service 5 times a year, with approximately 300 prostheses provided each time. In some areas, the mobile unit service cannot cover all amputees due to time and human resource constraints. In addition to providing new prostheses, the old ones need to be repaired as well.

Procedure

1. Community hospitals wanting to provide prosthetic service submit a proposal.
2. The Foundation observes the venues.
3. The Foundation takes the proposals into consideration process, with a capacity to provide sustainable service being the first criteria.
4. The Foundation and the selected hospitals discuss over planning and operational process
5. The hospitals renovate the venues or construct prosthetic workshops.
6. The Foundation organizes training course for selected amputees to be prosthetic technicians.
7. The Foundation provides equipments and maintenance training.
8. The Foundation initially provides 30 sets of prosthetic parts for the hospitals to produce prostheses. The production cost can be reimbursed from the HSRI.
9. The hospitals submit report to the Foundation every 3 months.
10. Observation will be held at least every 2 years while repair service can be requested if needed.
