One of the main objectives of the Foundation is to provide various trainings regarding prostheses by the methods and technologies invented by the Foundation.

In order to make this possible, the Foundation, with collaboration of local hospitals bots domestically and abroad, provides training to personnel, both able-bodied and amputee, who be hired by those hospitals to be the prosthetic technician. The trained technicians will be able to produce good prostheses at their hospital’s workshops, and results in more sustainable and convenient services for those in need.

Duration of the training course is four months. Four type of prostheses are studied; Below-the-knee prosthesis, Symes’ prosthesis, Above-the-knee prosthesis, and Through-the-knee prosthesis. After training completed, technicians will be equipped with knowledge and skills in making good-quality prostheses within an appropriate period of production time.

To facilitate better prosthetic socket and less production time consumed, the Foundation teaches them with a method named “the CIR Casting Technique” which is a modern prostheses making innovation that socket is fabricated from positive mold made by sand grains.

Using the “Dilatancy” principle, air between grains will be sucked out which grains of sands will be adhered together without physical or chemical bond. This method helps reduce both production costs and time, and materials can be reused.

Prosthesis Fabrication form the Sand Positive Model

Good prostheses are those that fit properly with stump, making amputees feel comfortable and enabling them to walk in a natural manner. With good prostheses, amputee will be able to put their weight through the socket, pylon, and down to foot prostheses.

Positive sand molds made by this principle will be used instead of plaster mold, and then will be adapted for socket fabrication process of the below-the-knee prostheses.
